From Cambodia it was on to Thailand for the last leg of my journey. I took a bus ride from Sihanoukville, on the Cambodian coast, up through the border into Thailand. At one point we passed through Pattaya, Thailand's premiere hooker hang out. It was awash with grizzly old men walking hand in hand with gorgeous young things, and before I knew it all the men on my bus over a certain age were asking to be dropped off there "to go shopping". Queeze.
After one night in what can only be described as the Bangkok Hilton, I headed back down to Ko Phangan to meet up with Olly. We had a fabulous time undoing all my good work from the detox, and we also managed to try out some deep sea fishing.
Olly caught a selection of tiddlers (truth hurts, Olly!)
I, on the other hand, caught a shark. That's right, a SHARK. You may need a magnifying glass...
We then went back to Bangkok where Olly flew home, and I prepared myself for my own return to reality. This mainly involved sunbathing whenever the slightest shard of sunlight poked through the clouds, and stocking up on cheap CDs. I also bid a sad farewell to the great girlies I met in Laos, who were in Bangkok at the same time as me. As you can see I'm still working the Wallace and Gromit Wensleydale grin.
On my final day in Bangkok I reminded myself why I'm on the verge of turning veggie when I spotted these pigs on sticks. As if I needed more reason, what with the Cambodian fried spider situation...
And on to home. I'm writing this on my Dad's PC in Milton Keynes. A bit of a culture shock but SO nice to be able to make my own wholemeal toast with honey and a cup of steaming, proper tea. Not forgetting the cultural phenomenon that is the Concrete Cows of Milton Keynes. Who needs Angkor Wat?
Looking back on the last four months I would strongly suggest that if you're thinking about doing a bit of travelling, stop thinking and just do it. It's 100% the best decision I ever made, and I feel like a completely new person. Work, drizzle and Big Brother will soon squeeze that out of me, but I'm making the most of the feeling while it lasts.
Until the next voyage, so long and thanks for reading! x
